Chris Flannery – Page 4 – I'd rather be the pauper of Scranton than the King of Wilkes-Barre

My Great Grandfather’s Obituary

from the Wilkes-Barre Times April 27, 1906

Many friends attended the funeral of John Flannery, which took place from the family residence, 9 Andover Street, Newtown, at 9:30 this morning. The remains were taken to St. Leo’s Church, Ashley, where a solemn high mass of requiem was held at 10 am. Rev. Father Carmody acted as celebrant, Father Dunn was deacon and Father Hussey sub-deacon. The funeral cortege was one of the largest that ever attended a similar service in St. Leo’s Church, the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Brotherhood of Locomotive Fireman ans the members of Division No. 18, A.O.H., attending in a body. In addition to these were hundred present, who had known and respected the deceased during life.

There was a profusion of flowers, among them a bouquet from members of the family, large pillow from the Engineers, broken wheel from the Brotherhood of Firemen and a large pillow from Division 18, A.O.H. The pall bearers were David Herron and James Sweeney, from the A.O.H.; Edward Krelder and W.G. Martin, from the Fireman, and Harry O’Connell and Frank Hilcoyne, from the Engineers.

The flower carriers were Walter Casey, a nephew of the deceased, W.L. Rosenkrantz, of the Engineers, and Lee Hannis, of the Fireman. Internment was made in Hanover cemetery.

Cry, Cry, Cry (Over You) – Chain & The Gang (lyrics)

Well I’m poor
Well I’m cheap
Well I’m looking for a place to sleep
Yeah I’m looking for somebody who wants to take me home.
…somebody wants to cook for me
…somebody wants to give me things free
I’m like a king whose lost his country, and his throne
Well I’m poor
Well I’m cheap
Somebody wanna look after me?
Like a cat that’s lost his litter, and his mom
Well hear me howling at the moon
You wanna take me in your room
Well I’m looking for somebody, something to call my ownYeah I’m so poor, there’s only thing I can afford
And that’s to cry cry cry over you

Yeah I’ve got nothing at all but the ground below, and a place to fall
And to cry cry cry over you
Yeah cry cry cry over you

Well I’m poor
Well I’m cheap
Yeah I’m looking for things that are free
And besides being poor did I mention I’m lazy?
Yeah that I like hanging around
Yeah trying not to be found
Did I mention i like to take it real easy

Yeah I’m so poor there’s only one thing I can afford
And thats to cry cry cry over you
Yeah it’s true I’ve got nothing at all but the ground below and a place to fall
And cry cry cry over you
Yeah cry cry over you
If you want me to
Cry cry cry over you
Yeah, I can
Cry cry cry over you
